Wednesday - We woke up at 4am so we could get to the airport for our flight. The Starbucks at the Bali airport was unfortunately closed, so we got a Nescafe iced coffee drink from the convenience store and checked in for our flight. We arrived in Jogja early in the morning and my mom got us a taxi to carry us around all day. Our first order of agenda was to find something to eat for breakfast and some coffee. Since nothing was open at 6 in the morning, we found a tiny place to get some Soto Ayam (chicken soup). It was the best Soto we had all trip. It was also the cheapest Soto we had all trip ($2.50 for our meal and beverages as well as the driver's).
We had coffee fails at Starbucks AND McDonalds before we found a Donut/Coffee place that opened at 8:30. Walking along the mainstreet of downtown Jogya, Shari attracted the attention of a 'interesting' fellow. We thought we had shaken him off and sat down on a bench (as we awaited the coffee shop opening). He soon joined us and struck up a conversation with my mom. He was certifiable to put it nicely. We hurried away to finally partake of some much needed caffeine. We then walked down the opposite side of the road to look at batik and little souvenir shops. More walking! We went to a half-price bookstore where luck would have it was also being frequented by former Indonesian president Megawati. I got some pics. Our colorful taxi driver came to pick us up and we met up with the Sappingtons at the mall for some surprisingly delicious food court food. We then hit up the mall Starbucks for coffee numero trois.
After rejuvenating (at least temporarily), we went to a silver shop where you can see them fashioning jewelry and other silver items. We then went to a batik store where they make their own batik. Some of the batiks must be dyed 5 times or more especially if they have multiple colors. We were going to spend the night in Jogya, but we were exhausted from our early morning and a week of being on the road. Our taxi driver agreed to take us back to Salatiga. After a long drive we finally made it back home and passed out before 9pm.
